Sitting out on our patio in the morning breeze looking over the beautiful Caldera as I write this blog. Up fairly early to take our transport to the catamaran. A little anxious because booked this through viator instead of the hotel . Kosta with Spiradako was waiting for us and the dock was on the other side of the island. We get an island tour included and didn't even know it. Lol. We pick up two cute girls Grants age from England and Italy a couple from New Zealand and a family from San Fransisco. Large new catamaran , only 3 month old. Crew of 4. Pablo from Brazil is the lead . 3 other boats from the same company. We see the couple in the room above us get on boat next door. Hard to miss his beard. We are off in a single file group. Not too far into the trip and Rick ask if I took my Meclazine.....no and that was a misstake. I sat up with the boat captain high and in the center. I do pretty good as we motor ( they never took out the sails) we stop at the sulphuric volcano warm springs in the middle of the caldera . Paulo starts telling us that the water will turn the white on your swimsuits yellow. What??? Never read that... several of us did not get in due to that. Grant jumps in with a noodle and off he swims he said the rocks were layered in color and people had written their names with the mud. The water smelled like rotten eggs but not overwhelming. The water is heavy. Hard to move. The rocks around us are jagged like just out of a volcano. The last eruption was in the 1950s. Our sail out was quick and not so close to the shore. On way back we hug the shore and can see all the beautiful rock. Pablo Points out the white beach accessible only by water taxi and too windy and rough today. Nobody there. In a calmer sort of cove. We get to swim and snorkel. Pablo throws out bread and here come the fish. Smaller fish and nothing colorful Like in the reefs. There are 17 other catamarans parked with us doing the same thing. Back on Board and time for lunch. Fried fish grilled chicken grilled shrimp Greek salad tzatziki. I am seated outside but looking into the cabin! My head and stomach almost immediately go queasy. Pablo was right on it. He moves me to the top and brings my lunch to me. Problem is that I can hardly eat cause I feel Like I'm Going to throw up. We move again to the red beach. This is a spectacular red rock cliff with a small beach. I swim and it helps my stomach. I jumped off the side and that was fun. Grant starts doing back flips off the side. So fun to watch and Rick is filming. 11 catamarans with is here. I make it back to dock without a throwing up . Yea!! My boating days may be over. Nice ride back across the island. I walk a little ways down from our hotel to a shop that says " Greek products" a lot of the same that I found on the supermarket yesterday. I bought a few more gifts and Crete olive oil. Back at room waiting for it to cool off enough to start sitting outside for the sunset. I order the dips and the Santorini Bruchetta from room service. We snack as the sun lowers. I have to face Fira again till sun not so intense in your eyes. The dips were good hummus, fava, eggplant, txatziki and cheese dip served with Santorini cherry tomatoes , cucumber sprinkled with Oregano and pita. The bruschetta was like what I watched on the ship. Rusk bread, tomatoes, feta and sundries tomatoes all with oregano and I'm sure olive oil. I had bought Santo Assrytiko as cocktail. The sunset did not disappoint. May have been the prettiest one yet. Sun turned a bright orange / red as it lowered behind an island in the distance. The light and the colors in the sky along with Oia lights coming on is just , I say again, beautiful!! Dinner is not till 9:30. We slowly walk into Oia thinking that we will not get as hot. Wrong!! Somehow I am hotter than normal but I wore my white jeans. We have to wait till last 9:30'to be seated but wow! So romantic and worth the wait. Start teasing Grant about being at one of the
Most romantic islands and dinners with his parents . He keeps dreaming about what his honeymoon might be. I hope his wishes and dreams come true. Dinner is worth the wait. The food comes out very quickly which is nice. The bread comes with a pesto spread, beetroot spread and olive tapenade with Santorini tomatoes. Rick starts with the shrimp bisque. We all 3 have the Shi Drum. A local white fish. We all made the right decision. This must be what Marty had before and my journal said it was the best fish he had ever had. It was thick like a piece of salmon cooked perfectly with a light sauce. Some sort of purée maybe parsnip , roasted Santorini tomatoes and Santorini capers! We all kept going on and on. For dessert we split the baklava and pistachio ice cream. I want to try and make the ice cream with whole pistachios in it. So good! What a great last meal!!! We slowly walk back to room. As we reach the entrance the view back over oia is just ..awwww. The lights and pools in different shades of blue. I think ricks phone took a good picture for us to remember . I had counted my steps on my phone for just the walk to dinner. 5,000!!! It's just a ways from this hotel to middle of Oia .
