So finally aly has let me do a day of the blog after 3 weeks of nagging! It's probably due to the fact she didn't get up to to much,
she was on the computer for a bit, then had lunch with a hungover chucky then they were chilling in the camper van. Me and Jambo on the other hand were up and out the van about 8 am for a days heli snow boarding. I was slightly nervous but had looked into what we would be doing and thought I would manage. Jambo was in desparate need of man pampers by this point and by the time the van had picked us up he had asked me about 200 questions, and in my usual early morning grumpiness and sarcastic answers didn't help, " will I need a helmet?" "too late!", " will I need googles?" " too late!" and my favourite question " do you think it will be steep?" " what do you think, we are getting dropped off at the top of a mountain by a helicopter!". The van transfer took us an hour over the mountains to wanaka, to the pilots house where we met our mountain guide and got split into groups. There was 2 French guys with a guide, who were of a good standard and then 1 Swiss guy and 3 italians with another guide, then me and jambo. There was a quick briefing on how to use the avalance rescue transmitter and by this point jimbo was chalk white and shaking like a leaf which slightly amused me! We loaded up the helicopter and we were off, me n jim and the 2 frenches and the 2 guides in 1 helicopter. 20 min later we were in the middle of the mountains getting droped off, and once the helicopter was away i could see jimbo getting up looking for the start of the run, no such luck it was straight over the side. Once we got going it was quite good, the guide set a path and we had to roughly follow him. We had a couple of falls on the first run but nothing to bad altho jambo decided to take off his new sun glasses after the first face plant in the snow and put them in his top pocket, second run and he lands on his top pocket and now has 3 part sunglasses! On the 3 rd run, just before lunch I probably had fall of the day, getting over confident and fast, landed face first and had at least 2 full somersaults before I stopped, got back to my feet, picked up my hat and off again. At that we stopped for lunch and met up with the rest of the guys. One of the Italians decided to take the most direct route to lunch, coming off at least a 20 foot jump and straight down the mountain! Amazing! The Italians spent the lunch time talking about routes down the valley we were in, but their guide didn't seem to keen, and took them else where after lunch! Our guide worked on some of the red bull stunts, setting up the stageing etc and even he thought those guys were mental! We had 2 more runs after lunch with the only funny incident being Jambo trying to stop at a bunch of Heather and cartwheeling right through the middle of it! The helicopter picked us up at the end of our last run and took the most direct route to the bottom of the other guys run, Jambo didn't look to amused as he was hanging on to the sleeve of my jacket! And that was us off to get the van back to queenstown after some really good snow boarding! We met up with Aly and a still hungover chucky and heading out for dinner with Lonestar being the restaurant of choice!
