Graeme round the world
Day 16 Sun 09/04 / Arrived in Lima last night [flight 11] driving through the city at 12 midnight was more like Las Vegas in terms of the amount of Casinos and plenty of armed guards with guns just like Quito, so not the best first impression, but the hotel was fab, another room to myself even though I am meant to be sharing, it is very colonial in style and looks fab, my bedrom has huge dark wood funiture a high ceiling with a fan, the view of the electrified fence gives you some idea of the need for security here. You also enter the hotel through a security gate!! Sorry no photos at the moment as this pc is also colonial and won't upload, but at least the keyboard has the letters on unlike Quito where they were all rubbed out, so no excuses for all my bad spelling here then! It is election day today, so most things of interest are closed and the odd riot apparently hemcde the tanks with water canons and riot police in the main square, but did manage to still get a city tour and lots of things to see. Had a fab lunch in one of the top restaurants on the pier watching the surfers and the seals, plus a few glasses of Pisco, the local drink. Climbed the steps up the cliff face which seemed easy after being at 3,000 ft the last couple of days, so hopefully in shape for the Inca trail. Just going to meet the group who I will be travelling with. We fly to Juliaca in the morning and then a short bus ride to Puna on the shores of Lake Titicaca, where I will stay overnight with a local family........and thier guinea pigs. They don't speak English or Spanish, so should be a quiet night then. Will update when I can love Grae xxx
ps Just found an internet cafe, so have uploaded some photos and also met a Canadian couple on my tour, who are very friendly and found out there is only going to be 4 of us so that is really good. The guide is really fun and he said there has been mud slides on the Inca trail, so it is good we are doing the Laros trek instead of the Inca trail, which is higher and also more scenic, but at over 5,000m at one point is more challenging.................perfect :o)
