Have you ever been part of a spiritual group, women´s circle or support group? This training is kind of like going to those, but every day for 6 hours. And there´s dancing. It´s hard to explain the work we´re doing, partly because much of it is happening on a subtle internal level. Partly because there´s just a lot going on. For the last 3 days we´ve had a new dance class every 10 minutes so that each person can practise teaching. it´s incredibly inspiring to see the possibilities I can bring home with me, and also really challenging to start going deep with one exercise and then suddenly start another. These are some talented shaktis and I`m really feeling blessed to be one of them.
As fate would have it i´m facilitating a business coaching group for those of us who plan to really go out and teach this when we leave. We´ve had a couple really good meetings and my coaching training has been very helpful. I´m so excited to see what everyone shares with the world! Mystical Dance is not a widely practised dance form and it´s sort of a new conglomeration of many traditions. We´ll all be using different pieces of it with very distinct populations. The point is the same- to connect deeper to self, to source, and dissolve the distance between through movement.
This is what was missing for me in other spiritual traditions and meditations before-- losing the self through movement, connecting the body, mind and spirit, embodying the Goddess within. I´ve gone to Ecstatic Dance events that were fun, some that were awkward, but none that gave any guidance on what to do, how to go deep and even have fun!
For me, one of the best ways to connect to the Divine is through celebration, to dance is to celebrate our lives, it opens our hearts and releases what we keep locked up every day. To ask a person to get into their body is already a mini-revolution, but then to give them the space to explore what´s there, to release, to feel their connection to spirit in all of these different ways goes way beyond dance. It can be an awakening. A remembering. An introduction to who one really is. Or it can just be a fun adventure, a chance to play pretend, a good stretch. Either way it´s enjoyable.
