Well, I've crossed over into Chile again and have been having a great time over here. But before I get into that I should tell you how the rest of my time in Bariloche was. So I ended up staying in Bariloche for 4 weeks taking spanish class. I learned quite a bit, diving into subjunctive verb tenses and trying to improve my grammar and vocabulary. I went hiking up a mountain one afternoon with my British buddy and another guy and ended up staying at a refugio close to the peak. Luckly we had anticipated this and had each brought up a bottle of wine. It was a great night of sitting outside covered in blankets drinking wine, talking and watching the stars.
However after four weeks of Bariloche I was ready to take off. Now, I had known there were many places in Chile and Argentina to go white water rafting, so I wanted to go to the best place for it. I had heard that the most extreme rafting was in this town called Futaleufú in Chile, south of Bariloche. So I hopped on a bus and went south. When I got into town I was a little suprised at how small and sparce the place was, but it was very chill and I had seen a couple places to go rafting with. I ended up meeting a raft guide from Montana who offered a place for me to stay. I ended up staying with him and his raft guide roomate for five days, of which I went rafting for three of them. The reason why I went rafting so many times was that after my first time I had to go again. I ended up talking the guy who took us out into letting me do a three for two deal, so I went two more times. I have two things to say about this and nothing more. First, its too bad I couldn't take pictures of the rapids when I was in them. Second, sitting in the front of the raft is the best spot to be, when you go over a 10 foot wave just find another one waiting for you is awesome! I had a blast.
So after a couple days of rafting I thought I'd better skip out of town before I ended up staying there for a month. I headed out for Chiloe, an island off the coast that is supposed to be a pretty neat place. However, the next bus out of Futaleufú didn't leave for 2 days so I decided to hitch hike it. This wasn't that exciting, minus the hours of waiting or walking, but then later in the day myself and another hitchhiker caught a ride to Chaiten, where my boat was hopefully waiting. We had waited together for a couple hours and were very pleased when a truck let us jump in his bed to Chaiten. We were treated to an awesome view of a temperate rain forest the entire hour ride. I would not have enjoyed the view as much from a car or bus, but sitting in the back of the truck looking back was quite a joy.
So anyways, that is just a little of what I have been up to lately. I wish I could post my pics from the last couple weeks but most of the computers I have been using cannot handle uploading my pics and putting them on the internet. So until later, wish me luck on my travels!
