It's a lovely sunny morning and we're up at the crack of dawn for our transfer to the airport. We're quite sad to be leaving Iceland, it's a wonderful country of contradictions, glaciers on top of volcanoes that could erupt at any moment with very little warning, the air is cold but there is steam and hot water coming out of the earth. There are vast lava fields, beautiful waterfalls and rivers. The people are friendly and welcoming even though they eat rotten fish but they love ice-cream whatever the weather. They also believe in elves that live in the rocks and under the ground, tell sagas and know how to dress for the ever-changing climate. It is said that if you don't like the weather in Iceland, just wait five minutes.
We made some new friends, ate far too much good food and learned how to pronounce Eyafyallayokullt, the volcano that erupted in 2010 bringing European flights to a standstill.
It is the country that is so rich, it can go bankrupt and still be rich!
Everything a holiday should be and much, much more.
Thank you, Iceland and thank you Kristberg, Siggi, Lisa, Mel, Phil, Lynn, Elham, Jonathan, Michele, Janice, Jerry, Anne and Victoria. It wouldn't have been the same without you x
