Today we are heading south back to Anchorage where we will lose some of our fellow travellers who are not joining us on the cruise, then on to Seward to board our ship MS Zaandam. On the way we called in at the Iditarod Headquarters and had a dog-sled ride. Of course, there is no snow, so it's a 4 wheeled affair. I fell in love with a puppy who seemed to like snuggling with me too!
After spending an hour at the market in Anchorage we set off on the 3 hour journey. It was a very scenic route but we were weary travellers and found it difficult to stay awake.
We boarded the ship after an incredibly inept woman tried and repeatedly failed to record our details for the cruise. The cabin is really nice and spacious, we upgraded to an outside one with a picture window. It was nice to be able to unpack after living out of our suitcases for a week. Our first assignment was to attend our muster stations for emergency drill practice. Steve and I then went to the 'posh' restaurant and enjoyed a delicious 3-course meal as we left Seward bound for Glacier Bay, arriving on Tuesday. The scenery was very dramatic, especially as the rays of the sun broke through the clouds on to an enormous glacier. More to come, I hope. We have a full day at sea tomorrow, we should have found our sea-legs by then.
We wandered round the ship to get our bearings and find out where everything is before turning in for the night.
