Planned trip from 24th to 26th January 2014
My first ever trip to Snow Sports. Thanks to Madhav!
Friday evening, I realized I had to pack! Taking out my first ever rucksack and puttin it to some good use. Tried my best to pack as efficiently as I could, right after a quick purchase of my new "Snow Pants". Took a quick screen shot of my train connections, as I dont have any Internet-on-the-go and pushed off. All the while trying to visualise myself snowboarding :P . Took the connection to BERN where I met Madhav and his Canadian friends. Quick catchup with Madhav. And finally after a couple of hours we reached LeChable Station. Waiting for the bus, an Indian, standing right around the corner looks at him. And "Hey! Indian or Srilankan" !! Lol. That was Varun, a guy who studied in Germany and now works for ABB, great guy, as I later found out, a big drinker and loves to party! 15minutes after we reached our bunker, yes you read it right a bunker! It might actually have been earlier used by military to protect themselves from bombing! Took my bed, somever near the far end , so that I could change clothes in peace. Right after declining the beer drinking offer from Varun. Jumped to bed, still excited to find out what I would do the next following day! ZZzZzzz...
Following Day ...
Waking up with left over excitment!! :D Quickly got ready and left for breakfast. After a filling a breakfast all of us planned out how do we split, so five of us walked together to find the Information centre. Unable to decide wheather to cross country or snowshoe, decided to just go ahead with cross country. But that again changed as we reached the rental shop. It was really expensive to rent the cross country skiis. So back to snowshoeing!! :P
We trailed the path on the map for hours, Robel trying hard to trust the map .. waiting to find snow, so that we could use the snow shoes. We were just about lose comple hope to find the start point, thats when we finally did see the trail!! Put on our shoes! and there it began .....
Very tiring... I almost finished off the only bottle of water we had!! I wasn't used to do anything physical at this low temperatures. With my snow shoe coming off at regular intervals, I was definitely slowing ciaran and madhav who were behind me most of the time. We kept trailing the path. It was beautiful out there, maybe thats what kept me going. Also, the fact hat soon we will travel downslope which would be way more easier!! Lukas had to be the most efficient snowshoer, lol , had his food ready was not tired one bit.
Finally we reached the restaurant that was marked on our map. The end to the tough part of the trail :D. Had some hot chocolate and brownies. Really refreshing. The next part of the path was just downslope. None of put on the snowshoe had just kept running down the slope. Haha. That was kinda fun!
