Started the day on a private boat on the grand canal to St. marks square. First to the Doges' Palace & the Bridge of Sighs. Really amazing ( I think I've said that before).
When we walked out of the palace the square was flooded. The Venetians have boards about a metre wide on frames that stand about 50cm off the ground that they place all around the flooded areas so people can still get around. When not flooded they are stacked and used as seating. Was amazing as the water was going up the stairs of the basilica which was also in the square. What a sight!!!
