Ahhh...just wrote a blog about Arequipa and lost it......ahhh - so all you get are photos and a little bit.
Josie and I flew from Lima to Arequipa - were met by a guy holding a card with my name on it. Wow - this is easy.
Beautiful city lodged between three massive volcanos. Loads of stunning white stone and intricate stone carvings. Great churches. Beautiful facades.
Fantastic museum with 'Juanita" the girl mummy hwo was found recently after one of the volcano's hissed and melted a lot of ice exposing her. she and a few others, also recently found, are believed to have been human offerrings to the Gods by the Inka's. She is nearly perfectly preserved - found inside the volcano in a layer of ice.
Fantastic nunnery - huge city within a city that still houses a group of cloistered nuns....was beautiful and had the coolest laundry system from the early ages I have ever seen.
Beautiful
Election day is Sunday - protests going on every night - big big protests against the government.
Starting to see more and learn more about the Inka culture. Those Inka's did water very very well.....and also big civilizations and stone work - all good so far.
Thinking of coming to Arequipa? Highly recommended.

Donna I am amazed by the architecture, the clothing, the colours, the people, the volcanos........... exactly like Grade 3 geography said it was. Spectacular!
