The bus broke down 10 mins outside of Pakse, it was so comfortable compared to the other ones we'd been on; even if something did drip on us during the night - i was glad i didn't see the ants crawling around until morning though! Fortunately the replacement bus arrive after about 10 mins and we were in Pakse by 7:30. A quick hop in a tuk tuk shared with the german guy got us across town to the local bus station and we had 10h to wait for the next bus to Tadlo.
It was really good that we found someone else going to the same place as us because the directions in Lonely Planet were a little vague " take the Slavean busand ask to be dropped off at the Tadlo Turning, walk 2km up the road and there a many guest houses". And so we did. And there were! We met a Canadian girl on the way, safety in numbers when walking into the middle of no where! In the end it was really easy and we all ended up staying at the same place.
Tom: The place is very rural. Like cows and pigs and chickens roaming the roads and stuff.
Tad Lo is actually a waterfall and half a dozen guest houses have sprung up near by. It's really weird, literally in the middle of no where with nothing more than villages near by. Each of the guest houses has a little restaurant as we went to Mamma Paps for lunch. She only had pork but could serve it with noddles, fried rice or in curry. It was pretty yummy if not a little weird. Over lunch we met a Scottish guy traveling with a Chinese girl. Relaxing after noon walking near the falls and reading in hammocks (on the veranda off our room).
In the evening we just sat around playing cards and chatting.
