Lazy day. Morning on ship for breakfast and lunch. Read and walked on the deck.
In early afternoon bus to Delta Project near Veere in southern Netherlands. This massive engineering project took place after the storm and flooding that killed more than 1700 people in 1953.
Funding began in 1960's , then planning and finally construction from 1978 to 1986 at a cost of 8 billion dollars. In 1971 decision to create 62 movable barrier walls so that fish, mussels, and birds would not be harmed by changing their habitat. Barriers can be lowered within an hour. Constant monitoring o weather, wind, and water levels.
Then walk though Veere,a small town of 500 that began in1200s. Had been prosperous when on 1455 it's lord married a Scottish princess and gained monopoly of wool trade. Massive church but dome too small as there was not enough money to complete properly .
