We drove over here to go to Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon. On the way, we stopped at the Mission in San Juan Batista. It was really cool, and a really bad location. They built this mission right on the San Andreas Fault. What a pisser - take 8 years to build something and voila - guess what, ya find out you are on a fault line. Some how this building is still standing??? Could not really see anything to identify the fault line here; could see the escarpment.
Sequoia was amazing. These trees are freaking huge. Pictures may not do it justice, but?when you look at those pictures look for detail, like cars in the background, people, or even other trees?..The General Sherman tree is the largest tree by volume in the world, Redwoods grow taller, and I think it is the oldest in the world too. Kings Canyon was an amazing drive; the descent in to the canyon was breathtaking. Oh, if anyone comes out here, DO NOT take CA-245 back to Three Rivers as we did. On the map - we drove north from our campsite through the parks; afterwards, we drove west to get to CA-245 to come back south. On the map it looks like a straight road, it is not, it is crooked as hell. It took us 3 hours to go 75 miles. What a day, but it was worth it.
