Our trip so far
We booked a three day boat trip to Halong Bay and set off out of the traffic in Hanoi. In our drivers rush to get us to the boat we got stopped and given a speeding ticket , so after some road side banter money changed hands and we were on our way agan .Halong Bay was amazing the water was clear, the weather was brilliant and our boat was so much nicer than anything we had seen so far.We sat down to lunch on the boat with clean white table cloths and food that just seemed to keep coming forever . We met Chris, Vanessa and Cameron ( they shared our table for lunch with us and tales of there travels so far ).After lunch we headed for the near by caves to explore . The caves had only been discovered fifteen years ago by a fisherman sheltering from storm . If you looked closely in the rocks you could see shapes of people and animals ( I also found lots of bins shaped like penguins ) Next we sailed to a lagoon were we stopped for a swim . the only way to get into the sea was from the very top of the boat ( chris managed to count to twelve before he hit the water ) the water was lovely and warm and all the salt made it easy to float . After our swim we were spoilt with more very good food and we all sat up on the top deck watching the stars and other boats ,over a few cans of bear we got talking to Lauren and Mark and Sam and Suzie , who had been working teaching in China for seven months .We had a great night getting to know eveyone and then turned in for the night( our cabin was above the engine so not much sleep for us ) .We woke up early and started our day with a swim in the ocean and spent the rest of the morning trecking in the National park on Cat Ba Island ( there were some amazing views from the large hill we climbed )In the afternoon we spent our time Kayaking in a small group with Lauren Mark suzie and Sam . We found a lovely beach where our guide showed us a small group of Monkey's , then we headed towards a fishing village surrounded by cliffs and we were lucky enough to see a large monkey sat on the top in a tree .We spent the evening exploring the town, finding quite bars that suddenly played loud music as we walked in and calling happy hour. The night ended as one by one we all headed back to the hotel, not really sure what we were supposed to do for the next day of the tour.We headed back to the boat the next morning after breakfast were we spent some time relaxing on the top deck, and then had lunch in a hotel before the Mini bus back to Hanoi.Back in Hanoi we washed and were ready to start our open bus tour across Vietnam, apart from all Glenn's washing going missing ( including his Liverpool shirt ) . After some frantic hunting all was found just in time to follow our moterbike driver on foot to the bus, where we were very happy to see that Mark Lauren joined us on our Journey.
