We got up early this morning and headed out for another hike across the island towards Chauk bay for some more snorkelling. The plan was to go to Chauk bay then on to Freedom Beach and to avoid Shark Bay as apparently that's where the sharks hang out. When we arrived at Chauk some guy had just got out and told us there wasn't much there so we decided to continue to Freedom Beach. We walked down a sloop past lots of huts over looking the sea to some rocks at the bottom. We left our stuff on the rocks and went in. It was like a bone yard, it was very deep and at the bottom there was a layer of coral that almost looked like bones. We saw a few fish then decided to head back to laze on the beach. We started the walk back then after 5 minutes saw a sign pointing to the left saying Freedom Beach……hang on a minute so where were we…..after a quick look at the map you guessed it we were at Shark Bay, well at least we got out alive.
We headed down to freedom beach and grabbed a cuppa in a restaurant, which overlooked the whole beach, then dumped our stuff on the beach and headed out into the sea. However it was pretty choppy which had stirred up the sand so we couldn't see a thing. We headed back to shore then put our stuff in a waterproof bag and decided to swim round the island a bit back to Chauk bay. We finally got there after only 20 minutes and Rachel kept panicking me saying "something just touched my leg" around 10 times. Afterwards she explained it might have just been a leaf or a twig not a man eating shark.
We stopped for lunch in a restaurant by the beach, which had a free swimming pool for customers. After some grub, a quick swim in the pool and a sunbathe we headed back to the guesthouse for a freshen up before grabbing a curry in a local restaurant and watched a couple of films. Before we were chucked out at closing time…... 10pm, it's a very party central place this lol. As everywhere seemed pretty dead we headed back to the guesthouse.
