We spent just one night in Milan and it was mostly uneventful. On the day we arrived we drove around for ages trying to find the hostel. And driving in Milan was no laughing matter. Since then I've now been to Naples and am currently in Rome and I'm pretty well convinced that Italian's get their licenses from Wheetie boxes. It was quite late when we did eventually find it.
The hostel was called the Hostel Scream and it pretty well suited the name. It was in this large really old creepy looking house complete with creaking gates and doors. It was nice enough on the inside though and the showers were good and the wifi was good (a rare thing in Italy) so there was little to complain about.
The next day we went and saw the cathedral which is apparently the 3rd largest in Europe after the one in Rome and one somewhere in Spain though Saul insisted that the Notre Dame in Paris was also bigger. Guess I'll just have to see that for myself at some point. It was only after the place had closed that I remembered that you can also walk along the roof, so we missed that. You can also go see The Last Supper but you needed to book tickets in advance at least a week or two. So it looks like I'm going to be going back to Milan on my way through Italy so I can do what I missed.
It was quite late by the time we left. But as we had been doing we just decided we would drive as long as we could and then sleep in the car. We were happy to have a bed and shower every second night. We were saving money that the car cost us. We headed south to La Spezia on the coast so that we could then drive west through Cinque Terre.
