On The Beaten Gringo Trail
Thinking we had made a major F-up by booking a hostel 30mins from our intended destination we were over the moon to find that Trindade was a self-sufficent hippy paradise, sometimes overlooked by tourists visitng nearby Paraty. The little town had eveything you could ask for: restaurants, a spralling sand beach with misty cliffs towering each end, quaint beach bars with local musicians singing Bob Marley, walking paths to surf beach or natural pools, the highest per capita dreadlocked population, local regae bands performing in the streets and knock your socks off Caprihinas that can be bought from a pop-up van to drink on the beach. To top it off, our hostal rocked. It was run by some local surfies that literally opened up their house to tourists so it felt like you were at a mates place. We would sit in the large carport playing cards or ping pong (pingy-pongy as the portugese say), having drinks, taking it turns to play music and attempting to learn Spanish from the Argentinian guests. Great vibe!
