The next day we caught a very early coach to Penang which was comfortable if a little hair-raising down the winding mountain roads!! When we arrived in Georgetown Bus station we were very lucky as Joel's uncle Alan kindly came to meet us and show us around Georgetown and Penang island, so that we could decide where we wanted to stay that night as we had nothing booked!!
We opted to stay that night in the town centre in the Love Lane/Chulia Street area as we wanted to see some sights the following day. However we booked a guest house on the beach for two nights time as it was so pretty and right on the beach. However when we arrived back in Georgetown accommodation was very difficult to find and our options were very limited! In the end we found a room for four in the Blue Diamond guest house which was nice with air-con and high ceilings despite the deafening band next door!!! (50 rm per room)
After we had dumped our rucksacks we headed out for a beer and some food in the local foodcourt which was very cheap and very good food!! (about 5 rm per meal 1 pound!) Then we headed back into town looking for a lively bar and some locals persuaded us to go to the local club "Slippery Senoritas" which had a live band and was fun, especially as they bought all our drinks!!
The next day we hired scooters for 15 rm each (3 pounds) for the day and headed off to see the sights, we went to Koh Lok Si Temple, the Botanical Gardens (scary monkeys!) and tried to go to Penang Hill but the funicular railway was closed as a cable had snapped the week before!!!!
That night we drove to the beach resort of Batu Ferringhi for dinner in their food court, very nice setting and good night market!! Then headed back to town for an early night as we knew Joels Uncle and Aunt were due to pick us up the next morning although this didnt go to plan as the band played until 2am and could have been in our room they were so loud!! The next day we moved to the beach resort of Batu Ferringhi.................
