Hello there guys !!
sorry its taken so long to update my blog...guess im just having too much fun eh?.
Well, what have i been up too? Iv done alot of walking recently with a few pepople I have met at the hostel (which i must say is a lovley place, im in the second hostel now, a bit quieter and a bit more chilled out, they dont even have a TV. nice. )
Yes, its very eggy here, when the wind changes it can be quite unpleasent, but you get used to it after a while.
Iv been to thew museum (of course) very intresting 'dynamic' cinema explaining the history of Rotorua, which it very intresting. it seems that Rotorua was the first place that became a 'tourest hotspot' in the late 1800's. It forces the local tribes to become used to things they wernt used too, the main one being the currency. Before we came along the tribes of the Rotorua had never traded with money. We did force a big change in the local community. It seems a double edged knife, it has brought good and bad to the area. It caused alot of conflict between local tribes, which still exists to this day.
Then the erruption happened in 1886 burrying the tourest city (no deaths! ) it also burried what was hailed to be the 8th wonder of the world 'The White and Pink Flats' google it as they were stunning, somewhere i would have loved to have gone. I have photos of the burried village i will put up. it was a nice afternoon out. I organised it through the main tourest site and i was picked up by a retired Maori guy. I was the only one as it was winter and they dont really get tourests at this time of year. Anyway, we drove for a bout 20mins into a vally and he told me about the local tribes and history of the place (i cant even pronounce the names let alone try and spell them ha ha) It was nice to flex my archaeological muscle again !
Anyway, i must go, i dont think iv got much time left and i want to see if i can upload some photos for you.
Love you all, miss you tonnes !! xxxx
