Hello all once again - we have finally hit Cape town and our tour is all over!!!!! we are mostly all staying at the same hostel tonight so we are going to go out for one final bash with all of the group!! its been such a good trip but was so exciting to roll into cape town. we could see table mountain from miles away, and then we hit the coastal road full of white sand and beautiful blue water with awesome clean surf rolling along the shore!!
the last few days have been really cool since swakopmund (OUR JOURNAL ENTRY FOR THERE IS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDHOEK ENTRY), altough a lot of driving to hit cape town. we stayed one night in the namib desert in a place called sessriem and then went into the desert to sossusvlei. that one morning we woke up, jumped into the truck and made a 45km drive to dune 45....then jumped out and walked all the way up its 150m height (very very very tiring) and watched the sunrise... then we rolled down the other side of the dune and got all dizzy and sandy, climbed up and rolled down again......then walked back to the truck for a pancake breakfast...finished that, washed up and it was 7.30 am!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then we went for a walk into the desert with this guy who had all the knowledge you could ever possess, he wore no shoes (hasnt in 9 years) and he was catching lizards and scorpions!! ( we also saw this wicked scorpion the day before and i was getting really close to get some cool pics). The scorpion Boesman (the guide) caught was one of 2 kinds, this one had big pincers because his sting was not fatal, and he told us that the one with a fatal sting has small pincers and a massive tail ...... and yep you guessed it......the exact one i was poking around the day before!!!
we also went past fish river canyon which was cool and swam in a pool in a campsite that was warmer than a bath - filled from a natural hot spring in the ground - not quite what you need in stifling 45 degree heat!!!
the last place we stayed at was really cool and we got to see england and wales get their asses kicked in the rugby over a few beers!!
Today we went on a township tour in cape town - basically a drive and walk through the hoods, dodgy as hell and so so poor. they lived in these places where one tiny bedroom had 3 beds, that housed 3 familys of between 4 and 8 ppl!!!! we got to go into their little shanty huts as well, a real eye opener i tell you!!!
the internet is quite quick and cheap here so will have a go at putting some more pics on in the next few days!!
hope you enjoyed your hols mr and mrs H, and chris and mel!!
love you all
