I've been in Malaysia for over 6 months now and today was my first time going into the villages. Upon arriving we had 6 or 7 little boys jump onto the back of our truck and ride in to the village. The kids are so beautiful, have big smiles on their faces and welcomed the "orang putihs".
I walked through mud, trash up to my ankles, broken wood, river water and never felt out of place. Even in the midst of unfamiliarity I embraced my surroundings and was totally content with where I was. Granted, I have many bites all over my legs and arms and a unpleasant smell filling the room...but as I write this I am home on my couch and know I need to get in the shower ASAP before my neighbors come yell at me for my stench :/, nonetheless, I don't mind. I am enjoying being content with my surroundings...in a trash filled, poverty stricken village, or in a 5-star hotel in a popular travel destination. Happiness is inside my heart, so no matter where I am, or what I am doing, I have joy that reaches beyond any circumstance.
I will be in Kota Kinabalu for 28 more days until I fly back to Kuala Lumpur to meet one of my dearest friends, Charity. We will be spending Christmas and New Years together (yay for not being alone on my first Christmas away from home!!!). I am thrilled for the adventures and memories we will make. Watch out Asia, Char & G together is one big crazy party!!
I hope everyone has a fabulous Thanksgiving tomorrow! I will miss the turkey, dressing, Mommo's famous macaroni pie, and being with my family, but sending my love to all! Share your gratitude with others
