Gill's Travels!!
Hong Kong Baby!!!
Hey all!
Arrived in HK fine, somehow managed to navigate our way from airport to our hostel which is 'interesting'! Not exactly the Ritz but the rooms are clean and the host is lovely. We've been sampling Chinese music channels!
HK is fab! Such a amzing city. In the daytime the streets are filled with business men, school girls.. tourists (though not as many as you'd think) but at night it comes alive with funky bars and restuarants and constant car horns and buses framed against one of the most spectacular manmade views of skyscrappers, that make your kneck hurt, and millions of lights!
Our first night here we spend exploring our surroundings. We're staying in a suberb of HK called Kowloon. We tried out our bartering skills at the local market and experienced our first real Chinese noddles! Everyone gave us funny looks as we plastered sauses over them.. think it would be like a Chinese person putting tomatoe sauce on a roast!!
Our second day we went to see the Big Bronze Buddha on the mountain. After a crazy ass bus driver scared the crap out of us on the journey winding threw mountains and crossing a dam with gorgeous views, we climbed the 268 steps to reach the Buddha. He is a dude!!! And there are great view from up there.
We also got a treat as we saw a Buddest temple with monks chanting and praying and doing funny rituals, we thought on of them had obsessive compulsive disorder doing a funny clicking thing! but it was an amazing sight!
We went to the botanical gardens yesterday in HK and saw monkeys and a jaguar which I was loving!! He was gorg!
HK is such a lovely city to just lose yourself in. Every corner you turn round has a new experience... you go from modern buildings and Prada and Guci to old allys with loud and smelly fish markets and meat hung up in the street to starbucks to amazing views of mountains or the sea on which we took a boat ride to get a full appreciation of the hight and volume of lights, highlighting the buildings which reflected in the night sea.
They city is filled with smells too! some gorgeous.. and some not so nice!
We're leaving HK today so my next installment will be from New Zealand! but HK def is a wonderful and interesting city! I would recommend it ... and the clubbing look fab!!
missing you all
