The saga continues, this blog is more addictive than Harry potter.......or crack!
The last month has been spent in San Diego. Due to the lack of funds (and donations) I was working in a hostel called Lucky D's in downtown. I use the term working in the loosest form, I spent most of the time drinking and watching Anchorman! It turned out to be a good choice as I met some really cool people and got to see loads of the city/bars. I've tried to get into American culture by watching American football and going to a couple of baseball games, but both bored me to tears so decided I'd stick to drinkin'.
I only had one mission for the entire month I was in San Diego, to find a car for the road trip. Kinda failed on that one. Turns out time flies when you get drunk everyday, it's all a blur. Nick flew back out last week and made it clear that I actually would have to sort out a car and staying in San Diego for the remaining 2 months was not an option. As a quick fix I decided to rent. Soooo nearly bought an old brown limo for $900 which would have been amazing but the gods were against us on that one, as would have the police been as I'm pretty sure it was stolen.
We had a final big blowout night in Pacific Beach which entailed a large quantity of the foulest rum I've ever tasted in my life and another night sleeping in a hostel I wasn't staying at. Gonna miss those guys, made some good friends.
I thought to make up for my sins we would give a girl we met at the hostel a lift to LA, so that was our first destination. It turns out Americans drive on the wrong side of the road and even the car controls the wrong way around, who'd of thought, I'm only simple and it confuses the hell out of me!
LA did not impress me for the one night I was there, it all seemed a bit dingy and fake. We did drive into Hollywood to get hideously lost looking for the Hollywood sign though. I don't think I'd make a very good pap as we didn't catch any celebrities.
On Tuesday we did a mammoth drive up the coast to San Francisco. We have had a tour guide for our stay here, in the form of Krissy Tate, who we met in Guatemala. I love this girl, she showed us all the sights and helped conform to my budget of zero dollars a day!Last night I found out by chance that Biffy Clyro were playing in the city so after a bit of investigation I found the bar name. Turns out they are not big here so we arrived and paid $12 to get in. Best money I ever spent, those guys rock my world. It was such a good gig and really intimate, probably less that 200 people there. We even met the band at the end of the show who were up for a chat until one of our drunk American friends told them to f**k off, unsurprisingly they did exactly that.
Today has been spent nursing a hangover and cycling over the golden gate bridge, it's big and cold. We ended up going for a 4 hour ride so by my calculations I'm healthy again and ready for another beer.
I managed to buy a tent and am planning on stealing some camping gear so the next stop is Yosemite national park where hopefully I can wrestle a bear. After that Vegas..... so the next instalment should be an interesting one.
Hope all is good back there; Keep in touch and don't go changing to impress me,
Gibb
