And so it begins! as I write I am sat in the departures lounge of the busiest airport in the world. The panic of check in and the tentative walk through the security gate as a passive aggressive security guard shoots you with that malevolent stare are now behind me. What lies ahead are twelve long hours in a flying metal tube and beyond that, who can say?!
Whilst my surroundings have the typical sterility of an airport, its occupants couldn't contrast more. I find it funny how such a dull place probably has the greatest cultural diversity and vibrancy of any purpose built area of congregation.
Unsurprisingly I have many conflicting emotions at this, the advent of my global Odyssey. I am both excited and worried in equal measure. I'm melancholy when I think that I wont now be seeing my family for five months yet elated by the prospect of making new friends. Despite this cognitive conflict, one thing that I am certain of is that the adventure upon which I am about to embark will create trials, tribulations, friends and memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
