For those of you who have been following our adventures, you will know that we began three years ago with the plan to undertake to follow Highway One all the way around Australia. We spent five months in 2014 travelling anti-clockwise around this great land, and were absolutely blown away by the amazing diversity and variety - from lush green forests and meandering rivers streaming out to the sea all the way up the east coast, to the vast, open, arid, red spaces of the centre, peppered with bizarre rock formations and caricature-like boab trees, to the colossal walls of iron ore being mined by the ton in the north west, to the white sands and turquoise waters of the south west. It was an amazing experience.
Then, the following year, we became aware of an oversight on our part. We realised that 'The Spirit of Tasmania', that magnificent vessel that daily plied the waters of the mighty Straights of Bass, was actually classified as part of Highway One. So, our job was not over, and we had to continue the quest with - Tasmania, the Sequel.
This time, however, we really have no excuse. We just love the nomadic lifestyle, the freedom of the open road, and the call of the wild. So we are about to undertake our third adventure - Up the Middle.
The problem with circumnavigating the land is you never see all the middle bits, and Australia certainly has much to offer in that area. So we really have to continue our quest. That's our excuse anyway, and were sticking with it.
So we have spent the day doing all our last minute preparations, and hope to set off early tomorrow morning. We will keep you informed of all our adventures, as free Wi-Fi makes itself available.
GeorgeY's bit
A1 was cut short when we realised that heading south meant colder temperatures. Esparance had to be missed for the third time round, due to a cold blizzard that was blowing. This time it is pitched at summer - let's see what happens.
Changes in the set up have been tweeked. The dual purpose motercycle, gone, replaced by a foldable push bike with some electric assistance.
Last time, converting electricity to espresso became a quest within the main quest. This time our new inverter generator will hopefully fill the need for a good cuppa.
Hope all goes well, maybe??
