At 7.30am I went to reception to see if my bag had arrived. The guy looked a bit confused but then passed me my bag from behind the check in desk.
After getting ready and having breakfast we all met at 8.45am to begin our walking tour of Athens. We walked from our hotel back down to the square where we'd had tea the evening before and then up a steep slope for about ten minutes. From there we had an amazing view of the city. We took some photos and then carried on up the slope to the Parthenon. We passed some other ancient artefacts on the way. Our guide gave us some information about some of the sights we passed on the way.
At the end of the walking tour we saw the changing of the guards at 11am. It was quite amusing as they done a funny walk where they stuck their foot up and out and done a huge stride. Made all the funnier by the fact their shoes had huge pom-poms on the end.
At the square with the guards there were people feeding pigeons. The place was full of them. There was a weird guy who had a baby in a pram and was putting the seeds on the babys head and the pigeons were all over the pram. Not very hygienic. Yuck.
After that we were free to do what we wanted. A few of us walked back to the Parthenon and went inside. After that we walked around the markets and went for some lunch before heading back to the hotel (so I could change my shoes as they had taken all the skin off the back of my feet and I could hardly walk) and then to the park where we sat and talked for a while.
Back to the hotel after that and just watched tv for a while before meeting the group again at 8pm for our welcome meal. It was quite nice and the restaurant had traditional Greek music and dancing. Most people were tired though and so we didn't stay out after the meal.
Up at 5am today to head for the ferry to Paros. I upgraded my seat but it's still rubbish so 3 of us are sat here cold and tired on a 6 hour journey - 3 and a half hours to go!
I'm also only one of 3 people who isn't Australian and one of 3 who have brought a backpack. I'm surprised how many people are travelling with HUGE suitcases!
