hi!
just got back from pulau pangkor on west coast of malaysia, which had just the right degree of sun, sea, sand and hammocks to be the perfect break from lugging my bags around. yep thanks i can hear the sympathy from hear!!
and the trip highlighted yet another travel tip for my travel guide ... always find out where the hell your going before you get on a coach! not sure why but i was sure pangkor was south of KL, oh well geography never was my strong point! i figured after 3 hours on the coach (going north!!) it was probably further away than i thought! oops!! oh well got there in one piece and met up with a group going to same town as me so we all trooped off together in search of the "budget" end of the accommodation market! saw lots of lovely places as we walked past them! our place ended up being great though, except for the mozzies as ever mind. penty of hammocks free book exchange and 100 metres from the beach cant be bad for 2 quid!
discovered a great resturant too which becks, served the best rendang curry ive had since payar! ;o) only problem was the wait it opened at 7pm and if you got there dead on 7 you may get your food about 8? you wrote your own orders and took them through to kitchen and the two very busy chefs got to you when they could!! the menu even said ordes would be quicker if groups all ordered the same thing! james you should try that in your place mate!! :o)
and before i went to pangkor i spoke to gwen at work about a website mentioning hornbills on the island, we decided it was probably an advertising thing, well after a quick cool off in sea on first day i laid on beach only to look up and very nearly get hornbill poo on my head, how lucky would i have been huh!!!! they were everywhere you shamefully ended up ignoring them (almost).
anyway a great time and fab people and vey strongly advised all round, apart from a distinct lacking in roti canai on the island, i may go back and open my own cafe! anyone fancy a waitressing job???
back in KL now, in wheelers which is full of irish people there taking over the world!! very bad drinking buddies though, well for a tee totaller like moi! popping to melaka tommorrow me thinks and i have checked its south and only takes 2 hours so if the bus is still moving after 3 i'm on the wrong one!!! always good to know!
i'll keep you all posted love to everyone and liz goodluck, its kinda getting near "that" time isnt it!!!!!
