Gem & Kate go Globel
Hey guys!!
We have been in the beautiful N.Z for a little over 2 weeks now.
It's such a nice place but VERY, VERY QUIET!! It's the total opposite to oz.
It has been a nice rest bite mind and we have certainly been getting plenty of sleep here. Last night we were both tucked up with a good book by 8.30pm - oh the crazy hectic life we lead eh?!!
As soon as we arrived we hired a car and headed from Christchurch to Dunedin.
We stayed in a hostel that used to be a hospital. It was haunted and the TV room used to be the morgue!! Let's just say it was more than a little creepy!!!
We then drove to Mount Cook and stayed in between the mountains. Nothing quite prepares you for the view you get when you wake up.
The driving in the south island can be a little scary at times coz the roads have hair pin bends. The crosses and flowers that are around most corners are a little reminder to take it steady, that and the road kill - these things are the size of small dogs!!
Milford Sound was also another beauty spot we visited - never felt so cold!! Again it was worth it for the views.
Next on the map was Queenstown - a wicked place but we couldn't stay for long so we took a jet boat ride up the river and moved on!!
One of the highlights of the south island was the glacier walk we did. To be honest I don't how we managed that one - it was so hard on the legs!! But walking on the glacier was worth all the hard work (even though its was raining - REALLY HARD!!)
The second was whale watching. We were so, so lucky with the weather and the whales.
We saw 5 sperm whales (they said it was 5 but it could have been 1 for all we know. How the heck can you tell the difference - they all look like logs in the sea!!) Anyways we also saw 1 humpback, a couple of dolphins, lots of seals and 1 lonely little penguin. It was a wicked fun trip!!!
So that brings us up to the north island. We have seen a little bit of it, but we are racing to get up to Auckland as we leave in 4 days!!
We are gonna pop in to say hello to Stef and then it will be on to Bali - can't wait to see and feel the sun again!!
Hope you are all well and happy . . .
Lots of Love
