well after all the excitement of the great ocean road (see pictures) i did the phillip island penguin tour on tuesday, which took us to a winery, then to a wildlife sanctuary - the koalas in victoria are triple the size of the ones on the east coast and are protected by lots of laws so you cant hold these ones and your not meant to take photos either, then we went to where we could do a boardwalk but seriously you have never seen weather like it it was pouring it down, so windy you couldn't walk straight - even the seagulls were being blown backwards (hilarious) - and it was only 12degrees, and of course clever me had forgot my coat and was wearing flipflops so i was freezing, i seriously felt like a block of ice! then we headed to watch the penguin parade, which is basically when the 'little' penguins come in from the sea after fishing (about 8.30pm) and head to the nests for the night - they are only 30cm tall at the most and there was hundreds of them, it was so worth freezing for they are gorgeous and it was an amazing sight -another once in a lifetime experience that i will remember forever. unfortunately photography was also banned there as the flash on a camera can blind the penguins, so no pics but iv sent a few postcards. today is my last day in melbourne so pretty much an organisational day but i did manage to go to the old gaol, where ned kellys death mask is and the place where the prisoners were hung is still intact - it was a pretty freaky place to be fair and i should imagine similar to what some prisons are like today, not a place id like to be! then i went to the melbourne museum which i found quite shocking, seriously if parents wanna teach their children about the 'birds and the bees' just take them there - cant write too much as i know some children who read my journal but im not easily shocked and i was there! then i went to imax which is a 3D cinema and watched an african documentary and now im back in the hostel and iv gotta do my packing, i head to perth at 10am in the morning and am going to stay with some family for a couple of days - not got many other plans for whilst i am there yet but i am looking forward to warmer weather, its been hailstoning here today - i feel like im back at home except im 10times colder, i wasnt this cold in new zealand! apart from the weather melbourne is a lovely city though.
