Gemma's Travels
oh my goodness its so long since i wrote in here and even though i feel like i havent been up to much theres still loads of stuff to write so iv got some time free so im gonna try and catch up in date order,.
on tuesday 15th i was meant to go to the school for the day but the guy who was meant to be driving me there never showed and it was the woman who id organised it with day off, so i just lazed around sunbathing.
on wed 16th i changed hostels, the one i was at was a fiver a night and it was quite good for the price, not great but what can you expect, but they started building work at 3am so i was really tired and moody so i thought i would change hostels, i also organised the rest of my time in fiji, booking day trips etc.
on thurs i was meant to be visiting the school and the driver who was going to drop me off (for free) turned up to pick me and another guy, who was doing a trip up, but the guy who was doing the trip didnt show so they wouldnt take me for free as it wasnt worth their while. kinda dont think im meant to visit a school whilst im here, fates against me lol. so i needed cash so i dragged someone on a walk to mcdonalds (which is the nearest cash machine) and a 40min walk away, it was so good to do some exercise instead of lazing around its just not safe to walk round on your own as a female, as the fijians see women as more lower class and treat them like rubbish- although they are EXTREMELY friendly to tourists, overly friendly! that night i went to see Tai and the Kavaholics which is where i tasted kava, see my message board for what i thought of it.
friday i went for a walk along the beach and my adopted dog Holly came with me, shes lovely she lives in all the hostels round here and is so friendly. it was quite nice to have some company on my walk as well especially when i came across a big group that tried to make me join them. holly was great and growled at them and i just carried on walking. got quite badly sunburnt on fri as well.
sat i set off for the coral coast i got the local bus and that was an experience and a half, when i finally got off the bus the place i was staying at was a long uphill walk i was about 5mins from the top when the company van went past and offered me a lift. i stayed at mango bay which is a new build and is very secluded, it was beautiful just what id imagined the islands to be like. i did a jewelery making class when i first arived and made bracelets out of coconuts- i spent 3hrs sanding the coconut shell! but the bracelets are top big for me so whoever i end up giving them to better appreciate the amount of work i did on them lol. the showers were holes outside though and really dirty, also there was no launderette facilities - so im beginning to smell again lol. there was an amazing show that night but id forgot to take my camera, then ther was a limbo competition which was really funny.
sun i lazed around all day, id been bitten by several million mozzies and my whole feet had swollen so i could barely put my flip flops on and i was in agony so i just wanted to stay still, thankfully the weather was gorgeous so it was fairly easy to do nothing. then i had a professional massage - my first ever- and it wasnt the relaxing experience i envisioned, maybe due to the fact the table was on the volleyball court and there were people playin volleyball whilst i was getting a massage, and the women let the towel slip off me!!!
mon i saw a guy climb the coconut trees and trim them and pick the coconuts, and then i watched a fijian cookery demonstration where they made their equivolent to sushi and i actually tried it!! do you believ i tried raw fish, eeewww. actually it tasted quite nice but the thought put me off so i only had a bite. that night was fantastic, we all went to the onsite nightclub and danced the night away.
tue, today, i have spent pretty much on the public bus travelling back to Nadi but its been an ok day i just feel tired from moving around so much. i go to the garden of sleeping giants tommorrow so i will update when i can. hope you are all ok! keep in touch!
