I have just arrived back in Melbourne after my trip to Tasmania and have to say it is the most beautiful place I have ever visited! The whole state is amazing and so quiet meaning there are not masses of people ruining your views!
Day 1 of the tour saw us take a trip in the pouring rain to Port Arthur which was a prison in the 1800's and an important part of Australian history. We had a guided walk round the grounds followed by a harbour cruise, but with most of the site outside and it raining most of the time it wasn't the best start!
After Port Arthur we did some sight seeing on the way back to Hobart and thankfully the weather had improved so we could enough the sights! We visited The Remarkable Cave, Devil's Kitchen (just a cliff really), Tasman Arch and Pirates Bay (where there was the most amazing rainbow!).
Day 2 saw us head up the coast to Wineglass Bay, probably the most famous beach in Tasmania. The walk up to the lookout was really steep and tough but well worth it for the views, and as it was a nice sunny day it was like a postcard picture! I then headed back to the bus and went to Honeymoon Bay for a hour or so which was really nice.
We then drove on to Bicheno where we were staying for the night and went to see the blowhole which was quite impressive with water shooting up from the hole in the rock!
On day 3 we headed to the Bay of Fires, which has just been voted the No. 1 tourist destination in the world by Lonley Planet. The beach that we went to was called Cozy Corner and we had a few hours here to explore and have lunch which was especially nice as it was a really hot sunny day.
After lunch we drove to a 90m waterfall (can't remember the name) and could walk down to a lookout at the base of the falls which was rather impressive. After that stop we started the long drive to Launceston where we were staying that night.
Day 4 was a day in Cradle Mountain which was a long drive from Launceston across a number of mountain ranges! When we got there it was so cloudy that we couldn't even see the mountain so we checked into our cabins and had lunch before heading out for our walk. Thankfully the weather cleared up and I went on a walk around Dove Lake which was really beautiful.
Day 5 was great as we got to sleep (we didn't leave until 8:45am)! We then went to the visitor centre and then the Tasmanian Devil centre where we got to see the devils up close and even pat one!
We then headed to the West coast stopping at some 40m high sand dunes that were exhausting to climb! Some of the others had a go at sandboarding, but once at Port Stephens was enough for me so I watched with amusement at them generally go crashing down the sand!
We then drove to Ocean Beach for the sun set which was really cool before heading back to our accomodation. Rose (one of the tour passengers who was from Hong Kong) cooked us all a Chinese meal tonight which was really nice!
On Day 6 we did a bit of a tour of the west coast before heading east and back to Hobart. We visited Nelson Falls, then the Franklin River which is so clean you can drink straight from the river! Then we went on to Lake St Clair which was at the other end of the same National Park as Cradle Mountain, then finally we went to see Russell Falls. When we got back to Hobart we all arranged to go out for dinner together which was a really nice end to the trip!
Am now back in Melbourne and got a couple of trips lined up so will be adding an entry for Melbourne soon!
