Gemma's Travels
Hello everyone, hope you are all well. Sorry ive not updated for a little have had a bit of busy week and a bit!
We left Adelaide and took another overland train to Alice Springs, the journey was not too bad this time round though, we was much more prepared for the cold night and took lots of snacks! It took us about 15 hours in all.
We had 1 day in Alice Springs before we left to go to Ayres Rock, not really much to do there as it is in the middle of the bush! We ended up going to a desert park which was ok, passed the time anyway!
We left the next day,got picked up at 6am and drove all morning to get to Ayres Rock, which is actually called Uluru since the abariginals clamed the area back. We drove into the park and went to a cultural centre to learn about abariginals and their beliefs surround Uluru itself and the surrounding area. We then went the rock, it is massive! Some of the group we went with climbed it but Mel and I decided against it because it is such a sacred place to the abariginals they ask you not to climb it. We did a base walk instead which took us about 1.5hours which was cool though. Once the group was back together we went on another walk and saw some paintings on the cave walls. We then drove away from the rock to a lookout point to watch the sunset, it was so beautiful watching the colours change and stuff, I couldnt believe how quickly it happened though! If you go onto Mels site we've put on all the pictures for you.
We then drove out into the bush where we slept, bush camping. We collected fire wood and made a big fire to cook our dinner on and we also had marshmellows! All we slept in was swags, which are canvas bag things, oh my god i was so so cold! the temperature was 0'c! Didnt sleep much because I was so freezing, it was cool sleeping under the stars though.
Next day we were up bright and early and went to the Ulgas which is another massive rock much higher and wider than uluru, about an hour away and did a 7.9km walk. It is another sacred place. If anything more beautiful than uluru, much less well known as well. Really good day, really enjoyed the walking, hard work though. It got really hot during the day, could not imagine going during the summer you would literally melt.
Still working on a tan but as I'm walking and stuff have only managed to get some attractive strap marks etc.. bloody great!
Another night bush camping - much more prepared, i wore so many layers! Slept a bit but still ended up being so cold and ended up getting into the samw swag as Mel to keep warm.
Next day we were up early again and drove to Kings Canyon which is a canyon! Again had sacred meaning. Out of all 3 this was my favourite, it was really beautiful and had a water lagoon and more plant life around and in it. The hike around it took us about 3.5hrs.
Later on our guide showed us some witchidi grubs, which are white grub things quite fat! Its bush tucker, noone in our group would volunteer to eat it so he ended up eating it, said it tasted like peanut butter! So gross, it was like Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!
It was a really good few days, if you ever go to the outback of Australia i recommend you go the Uluru, it is just beautiful!
To get back from Alice Springs we had a 2 day bus to. It was cool we and an overnight stop on the way home in an opal mining village called Cober Pedy. Because it is in the outback and gets so hot and the buldings are built underground, which is where slept as well. So cool, it was like the Bat Cave in Batman! We went to a local pub to watch the England Match. Yay we won!
Journey home was ok, had a bit of a dickhead drive who clearly didnt give care about the trip and just rushed through all the other stops, never mind. Back to Adelaide yesterday. Today we've not been up to much just catching up with ourselves really. Tommorrow we get the train to Sydney so will be there Wednesday morning. Really Looking forward to going there and seeing all the sites!
WORK - hello guys, hope you are all ok, missing you lots! say hi to everyone for me, hope all the baby bumps are growing nicely!

Missing everyone lots
Big Hugs
