After a nice Sunday lunch with the family in Brasilia, it was time for packing and moving on with our 'round the world trip!
We had to leave two bags behind - one for Sis to take to Sydney within a week, another one for Andre and Callum to take at Christmas time. We're so lucky they could do that for us! :)) The bags basically had our New York shopping and wedding gifts.
Our next stop is our beloved Rio de Janeiro! Thanks to my dear friend Nayara and her mum we had a nice beach apartment to stay at Barra da Tijuca. Naná's mum left us a beautiful breakfast basket as a honeymoon welcome gift - so thoughtful! We were very happy and touched.
The highlights from the Rio trip:
1. Visiting our dearly missed friends Giselle and Wilton and meeting their beautiful newborn Helena!
2. Under Gi and Wilton's recommendation we went out for dinner at Zazá in Ipanema. There I spotted the supporting actress from a TV series I love - Homeland. Jessica Brody (real name Morena Baccarin) was with her husband waiting for a table, and so were we. We were already feeling like that was so cool, but little did we know that we'd be seated at the table right next to them for dinner. Like, 3 inches apart.
The best part was when our (amazingly delicious) dessert arrived: starring at it, Morena (my new friend!) looked at me and said (in Portuguese), 'which dessert is this one??'. Just like a little shy girl, I didn't know what to say...! hahaha..! Anyway, somehow we told them it was a dulce de leche petit gâteau with cheese ice cream, and they ordered one straight away. I kinda wanted to say something about how we love the show and about how beautiful she is in it, and also in real life, and how I had no idea she was Brazilian. But I didn't say anything, just 'enjoy' as we left and they were having their dessert. You're allowed to laugh at me now, go ahead!
3. Day trip to Paquetá - under dad's recommendation we took the ferry to Paquetá, an island close to Niterói where there are no cars, only bikes! As a kid dad always told me the story about how him and mum went there for their honeymoon - so it looks like we're starting a tradition here :). Getting there we hired our bikes and rode all over the island. It was really fun, very beautiful and very romantic :).
4. Lunch at Aprazivel in Santa Teresa. This neighbourhood is definitely our favourite in Rio, and this restaurant was a great way to enjoy it. It has great views and a nice atmosphere. We had core of palm baked on the inner layer of the palm tree itself, it was really amazing. We also had a very delicious Brazilian white wine from the south - too bad I can't remember the name now :(.
After Rio our next stop is Paris! On y va! :-)
