Ok we have checked in and had a little snooze so I'm feeling a little better now. The Anne Frank house was very moving. The secret annex was unfurnished as Anne's dad wanted it left that way. Left it feeling very haunted, especially when walking into Anne's room, where the pictures of movie stars she pasted on the wall were still there. Just your typical teenage girl, in the most atypical of situations...
We got to see real sections of the original diary and that made me tear up. She wanted to be a famous writer after the war. Graham had a moment after reading that quote from her diary.
What those 8 people went through is so sad. It's hard to wrap your head around how some humans could be so cruel. All in all, it was a tough but very good start to our time here in Amsterdam.

The view from our hotel room is quite panoramic, though the windows in the washroom leave you feeling a bit like being on the opposite side of the glass in the red light district!
Off to go have our first dinner in Europe soon! Enjoy your lunches at home!

Janice and Chris Collins Hi Graham and Jill, we had the same feelings when we toured Anne's house, quite emotional and moving. To change the mood go to the Heineken brewery-it is a great tour and best of all you get really cold beer free at the end. It is really worth going to, they even turn you into a bottle of beer!! Isn't it amazing to see all the bikes there and go have french fries on one of the main streets-you will find it, just look for the big box of fries on the street-enjoy!!! -love the blog.
Mom and Dad So glad you made it safe and sound! Can't believe how quickly you hit the touring trail. Anne Franks house sounds very moving. Your view from the bathroom! looks amazing...lol...aka the red light district feel! This is soooo cool, we feel like we are almost there with you....keep up the good work and enjoy! xo
