School day started in a haze of brisk and chilly winter temperatures as we made our way to school to meet the rest of the Elk Grove High students. Some of our students started at 6:30 am for zero period which was a leadership class with our host organizer Dan Newton. The rest started at a more reasonable hour of 8 am. As the day wore on the sun warmed our skin and our hearts as we made new friends and saw school from a different perspective. Lunch was celebrated with food from around the world run by the different clubs of the school to raise funds to help with the ongoing costs. We were well fed and experienced the enthusiasm and commitment the school has to seeing students take ownership of their areas of interest. In the afternoon many attended after school activities with their hosts getting a glimpse of the busy student life.
