Went to "posh" breakfast for our very last morning aboard the Celebrity Solstice. Met a couple from South Carolina, they had driven to Seattle to board the cruise and it had taken them 3 months in their Winnebago! They explained they live on an RV park and would take two months to drive back.
We had pre-booked a sedan to the airport - it was late! But after a couple of phone calls, eventually arrived to pick us up. Flew to Las Vegas and got a cab at the airport on our arrival - Arrived at the Platinum Hotel & Spa - Gaz left his laptop with our passports inside in the taxi and then realised after the taxi had left!!!! The helpful staff at the hotel looked on CCTV and managed to see the taxi number, we called the company who said it could take up to an hour to contact the driver! Luckily the driver realised and phoned the hotel then brought the laptop and passports back! PHEW!
The hotel was beautiful! Went up to our room - it was more like an apartment than a room and we had our own kitchen with full oven, microwave and American fridge freezer - water and ice on tap! Unpacked and decided to head out to explore.
Went for a walk to the strip - it was packed - we later found out there were celebrations for Mexican Independence Day that's why so many people! Called into Walgreens on the way back and picked up some hall (for my annoying cough!) and Gaz bought me some champagne and himself some beers.
Had been recommended Ellis Island by a couple where I work - it happened to be in the same block as our hotel! We decided to go there for dinner it was very good! I had the clam chowder and steak, Gaz had salad (which he gave to me!) and the prime rib. Tried the light beer - really good. The only thing I didn't like about Ellis Island was it was a bit smoky as people are allowed to smoke in there.
