MONDAY 7TH-FRIDAY 11TH MAY
When in Oz SURF! Settled in,checked the place out and then set about finding a hostel with 24hr Fox sports for the Chelsea match on Thurs morn-Sad we know!I'll come back to that later.
With our first ever surf lesson the next day you'd think I'd have a quiet one. Someone should have told me thats impossible if you go to Cheeky Monkeys. In the day we bumped into Amy and Joe from the whitsundays and arranged to call them later? for a few drinks. Couldnt get thru to them so Kym called it a night and I got chatting to a couple of lads from Chilli and a group of English and tagged along to a few bars before Cheekies. Bumped into Joe, Bart (a quality dutch guy who we keep on bumping into along the coast) and Thomas and thats where it started getting messy!
So instead of being fresh as a daisy for surfing I felt like death!
We had a 2-day surf lesson with Mojo. Kym was stoked at eventually mastering how to get up,?is now a? surf?chick,?wont stop?telling everyone how ?fully sick surfing,?uses words like radical, far-out and calling evryone dude!?I'm glad I tried it but give me a game of soccer anyday.Too much hard work and not enough reward for me lol
On the Tuesday we changed hostels and got up at 5am to watch the game but the group of lads who had booked out the key to watch it never showed!Absolute ***** ***** **** !!argh! Not amused! Considering thats the only reason we moved hostels it was a bit of a disaster!-made even worse a few nights later when the Frenchie guy in our room and some random fat bird treated us to a private show in the bed opposite-kym was not overally impressed to say the least.
Got to see the game replayed later in the day but thats not the point
To cheer us up we treated ourselves to a posh picnic by the beach in the afternoon with the works- stuffed peppers, olives, crisps, fancy meat and obviously a ham sandwich foy Kimberley. We hired?bikes in the morning to cycle up to the lighthouse but since Kym has the leg power of a 5 year old she bailed and left me to it. She missed out on the the spectacular views of the bay and of the dolphins riding the waves into the cliffs.
On the Friday we got up early to get a lift up to the lighthouse for sunrise which apparently is amazing. Not that day-lol it was so cloudly we couldnt see a thing. Back to bed for a couple of hours and then we went on a trip to Nimbin which is basically a small town full of hippies where the police turns a blind eye to weed.Worth seeing but it was pretty scanky. The stories of women with babies offering u weed turned out to be true.On the way back we stopped at this hippies house. He was an absolute mess but his 'garden'was pretty cool. He bought a couple of fields about 20 years and started planting every type of plant and tree imaginable so its now like a multinational rainforest.
?Its a shame Tourism has took over Byron-it still is beautiful but u can only imagine how nice it used to be. Wouldn't have had a Cheeky Monkeys and 24 hour pie shops tho!lol
