After fantasy castles in Füssen we were on our way to Munich just in time for the last weekend of Oktoerfest. And to top it off, Morgan and Nicole were coming over from Roma to join us for a few frothies. We arrived on the Friday, which happened to be a public holiday, and the Oktoberfest grounds were packed! Packed grounds and closed shops meant we basically couldn't do anything on Day 1. So Jess bought a dirndl at the train station and we readied ourselves for Morgan and Nicole's arrival the following day.
Sadly, things did not go according to plan on Day 2. Morgan became ill overnight and was not in any shape to fly out to Munich and drink beer all night long. That left Jess and I to make our own fun. Jess put on her dirndl, I slapped on a checkered shirt and we were off to make the best of a bad situation. Once again, the Oktoberfest grounds were chaotic. The beer tents were packed and we had no hope of getting in. So we went to a local beerhall for a few quite beers.
Whilst at the beerhall we met a group of Germans and decided to tag along with them for the night. We tried once more to enter the tents at the Oktoberfest grounds and, once more, they were full and not taking any new customers. So instead we headed off to the local Hofbräuhaus beerhall, which wold be the closest thing to being inside the tents. From there, it all became a blur. I remember lots of singing Italians, posing for a photo with some Chinese guy while we had our tongues out like Gene Simmons, and just having a great time. It wasn't quite the night we had originally hoped for with Morgan and Nicole but it still turned out to be a tonne of fun.
The next day we tried to do a bit of shopping but, being Sunday, all the shops were closed. I think that summed up our weekend in Munich perfectly. Despite our best laid plans, things just weren't going our way. Oh well. $hit happens.
Next stop: Berlin
