The camping meet up has come and gone, what an epic weekend full of laughs, beer, travel stories and some dodgy tasting foreign spirits.
It didn't all quite go to plan though on the Friday of us going up we (me, martin, tom and aaron) were hoping to set off from mine around 4/5pm how ever due to traffic that soon went out of the window and it was more like about 8 by the time we had left Leicester with 45 minute drive ahead of us.
We finally got to camp ground just before 9 I think with the light fading fast which was a little worrying as we still had 3 tents to put up! However to not be rude we went over to all the guys and girls already there and made our introductions, made pleasant small talk for a few minutes before thinking s*** these tents need doing. Lucky having used mine for years it went up a treat, as did martins, things were so smooth for Aaron and tom though.
It was toms parents tent I believe which he himself had never put up so they inevitably turned to the instructions, after looking at them they still couldn't do it, so we all chipped in and got it done, those poles were ridiculous to get right, it required about 3 pairs of hands for each pole so space was a little tight trying to get them right, never the less as men we succeeded and got it up in the nick of time, and that obviously called for a celebratory warm can of lager and for me and Aaron a fag aswell!
The rest of that night was spent all gathered around a campfire which at points more resembled a bonfire with the flames! It kept us very warm however. Gapyear.com had kindly donated £100 towards alcohol too, which was quite a large quantity of booze but after just that first night it was all gone, along with a case of my beer and martins! I'd class that as pretty successful :) I must of had a rather large thick beer jacket on by the end of the night, shame it had warn off by around 5 or 6 in the morning as I awoke in my sleeping shivering!
Saturday was spent drinking 2 litres of lemonade in the space of around an hour as an attempt to rehydrate myself, that being said I wasn't massively hungover which is always a bonus! Once everyone was up we chilled out for a little while then headed just down the road to a pub for a typical pub meal, which I must add has never EVER tasted so bloody good! Once we got back to ye olde camp ground the beers started flowing again but not before a trip to the local supermarket to restock! A little game of headers and volleys ensued with a semi pumped up football, if you lost 3 lives first the there was a lovely tree stump for you to bend over and have everyone else nail the football at your arse till they missed, Martin seemed to loose his life's pretty quickly so he must of loved it in a worrying way haha.
And again Saturday night was just full of beer and spirits, fire and drunkeness. However that night I'd learnt my lesson, not with alcohol but with clothing when going to sleep and kept my hoodie on, it was a wise move as I never woke up in the night.
And finally Sunday, what can I say, I don't think I have ever felt so rough, even after drinking masses of fluids I couldn't shift the hangover, I just felt like I wanted to be sick everywhere! When I got home I got myself some pills and got into bed where I stayed all day. I was meant to be going to a pub to go meet another couple of guys coming to Thailand with us but the thought of beer or being anywhere near a pub was not a nice one so my bed was where I stayed. However I did have a 3 hour afternoon nap like the old man that I am and that just completely screwed me over as it meant I couldn't get to sleep in the night....oh well.
So that was the gapyear camping weekend, really enjoyed it and if any of you get the chance to go along, DO IT!!!
Peace out
