With only 2 days in Adelaide we didn't really have many options on what to do which was a shame - as approximately 20mins after hitting the city I was in love with the place. Really interesting buildings. Lots of parks. But oh yes 42 degs!!!
On the day we arrived we went straight to the Haigh chocolate factory for a free tour! There wasn't much in the way of a major tour put on - but what was there was quite interesting. Plus free samples!!!
After scoffing maybe 10 chocolate covered macadamia nuts we moved on to the Zoo. It seemed quite strange after working so long in one and also seeing so many animals in the wild to want to go here but I was curious. Also I had heard that the zoo had recently got 2 Giant Pandas (The only ones in Australia) and so wanted to see these guys!
The zoo was pretty average though! The panda exhibit was ok - however both pandas decided it was time for a nap so we didn't get to see much of them. Though I did learn that Giant pandas are only reproductive simultaneously for 1 day a year! Imagine that!
That afternoon my parent arrived in town and we met up for some food!
The next day we drove out to the Barossa wine valley. The most productive wine region in Australia. We had high hopes to see a number of wineries - however ended up just visiting Jacobs Creek (which was a truly terrific visitors centre!) We enjoyed a really nice lunch here and then headed over to a small village called Hahndorff (meant to be of German styling) for a browse.
We returned to the hotel well fed and ever so tipsy!
The next day we were leaving for Melbourne - but we did manage to fit in a visit to Central market. The largest covered market in the southern hemisphere! After we took the tram own to the beech. Yes I have to say I really like Adelaide. Maybe one day I can return and spend a little more time!
Well that day I headed over to Melbourne where I will stay for Xmas with my family before heading on my next adventure: BRAZIL for 3 months!!!
Merry Xmas one and all!
