Hey Guys,
Well been a busy few days!! I left Cairns very early with the Ozexperience bus. Greedo the driver was a very cool guy who had a habit of calling everything "Extreme"!! Made friends almost immediately with a really nice couple who were actually staying at the same hostel as me earlier. The route took us to a crocadile farm just south of the city. Again I cant rate these places enough. they are small but allow you unparralelled access to the animals. We hand fed Kangaroos again, watched a feeding demonstration of crocadiles (which involved 2 guys getting into cages with 5/6m crocs and hand feeding them - absolute insanity), and got to hold a baby croc, horny lizard, blue tongue lizard - THEN another MOMENT of this trip!! I got to cuddle a Dingo puppy! Was so cute - although in the pic i look grumpy as hell!
After this we got down to Townsville and boarded a ferry over to Magnetic Island. the temp is a constant 33 so pretty much constant sweating. I stayed in the Base backpackers in magnetic which was like a tropical dream hotel with pool and beach side bar/restaurant. The next morning (a little hungover) I went in search of wild kaolas with a spannish girl, argentinian I met the day before. We got about 30 mins down the road then gave up - just too hot!
Then later we boarded the bus again and headed south again stopping off to hand pick mangos from roadside trees. Greedo organised a table for us at the main bar in Airlie beech that evening as there were 3 Oz Buses coming in so had a pretty cool time. Airlie beech is like heaven to me. A small town based again on the sea front. tropical temps but with an electricity at night with a few good bars. Everyone is happy here. no sad faces anywhere!!
Anyway the next day i packed a load of beer, wiskey and cokes and headed for my home for the next 3 days - a sail ship called "The Boomerang". As I arrived I was amazed at how small it was. this was to house 30 people and it was only about 75ft long!
Well the trip was amazing. There is something so relaxing about sailing (without the noise of the outboard motor). The crew were amazing - Skipper Dave (self quoted tree hugging fish loved hippy), Deck boss Max (Mad scarecrow on drugs and pioneer of the Maxtronic dance) and Host Erin. The guests were a really good mix as well. Mixing French, Canadian, Dutch, Switz, Chinese, korean, Welsh, Scottish, English, Spannish and probably a few more as well.
Days were spent snorkelling the reef , evenings spent drinking and dancing on deck, nights spent trying to get to sleep in a room of 25 drunk holidaygoers with the temp of an oven. I made friends with most people but especially like my two welsh friends who I met on the ozexperience bus the day before. Just got back to land now and 3 of the boats have organised a big party at the same bar we were at before so should be incredible! Ha ha and tomorrow morning I have to get up at for a 7am departure for kroombit and a remote cattle ranch for a day of rounding up sheep, goats and riding bulls!
Well Will write soon - Ps. is it nearly christmas?? It really doesnt feel like it here!!
