Hi everyone - Sorry for lack of blogs.
I have taken some time out from my travels to just rest up in Sydney. My good friend SuYen has just moved out and she has obligingly let me crash on her floor. She lives in a nice suburb in the north shore called St Leonard.
First I have to say - I do not like Sydney. Of the cities I have visited before in Australia Sydney has always been my least favorite. It is too big, with too many people and I just do not like the geography!
What has not helped endear Sydney to me this time around is the nasty weather here since arriving, which has been mosty overcast and grey with rain.
I visited Darling harbour again - much bigger than I remember it, and the QVB - much smaller than I remember. Went to Sydeny Aquarium (which as you would expect was very nice - although nothing unique) and the Wild life park (which was I have to say very well done). I got to learn all about the numerous venemous animals I am likely to see. Although in my many discussions with life long aussies about red bellys, and brown snakes they scoff at my nervousness repeatadly saying that to actually see these creatures now is near impossible. My response is always the same - These kinds of things always happen to me. Right on cue when visiting a public toilet on the river Wonona i enter the only cubicle and get ready - look up - and see hanging a foot above my head in its web a golden orb spider. Now not remembering whether this spider is poisonous or not I had a dilema. To pee or to flee! In the end I chose to pee. the spider looked pretty mean but also asleep.
Visited Bondi beech for the first time - quite a nice beech actually. And also to manly which is much nicer. Infact we did a 10Km scenic walk from Manly wharf to Manly Spit through some reserves (with a number of very cool lizards for company that I tried to identify when I got home. Think they may be dragons of some sort)
Today I visited Taronga zoo and to be honest was not very impressed. After seeing the wild life park the zoo was not so hot!
In my spare time I have been hunting to find a job - quite difficult here on a visitors visa. So decided to head up north and try my luck there.
On tuesday I head off to Cairns and officially start my hols again so expect some more blogs!
Take care
Si
