Gary's World Adventure
Yes I now feel more acquainted with Thailand to face the horror that previously had me thinking I was going to be on the next flight home...Bangkok!
Well Im staying more central now in Koa San Road..which is the main backpackers haunt. Ive opted for a side road accomodation in the hope of getting some sleep - well that was the plan......
The first night I arrived I had just travelled 10hours from Ko Chang and having only had 1hrs sleep the night before due to loud music but the time I arrived here I was sooo tired I opted for the first available bed....I'll learn thats for sure.
The place was crawling and I mean crawling with bugs/lice you name it...I took the sheets off shook them outside and even resorted to desperate measures of spraying my mosquito/insect repellant on the bed...but could not sleep at all the one time I was nodding off a beetle crawled across my hand...there was no way I was sleeping after that.
Now not having slept properly for 2 nights I was well and truly on the edge...desperate measures were to be called.
8am next day up stll not slept and found a nice room with comfortable pillow and moved straight away.
I decided not to sleep and do some sight seeing...I visited the Reclining Buddha/Grand Palace and Wat Pho....I was not aware of dress codes and therefore had to borrow....I looked like I should be stuck up a ladder painting. Check the photos out.
Today (02/11) I have been to visit an english man on death row here in a bangkok prison..I saw a notice pinned to the notice board in the hotel Im staying so thought pay him a visit.
I took him toothbrush/tooth paste/soap/plenty of food and 3 books.....it was not a nice place where it was. Again I had to wear some funny trousers (apparently thai's can wear shorts but not foreigners??? When I got told this I got a complexion about my hairy legs..!) The guy was called Julian Gilbey he was 37 and been on death row now for 5yrs...he is trying to get his sentence reduced to life (100yrs)...he got caught smuggling herion out of thailand (he claims he thought it was diamonds not drugs, but Im not sure after speaking to him I believe him...after all he was 32 at the time not 17, but who am I to judge?) He was grateful to see me but seemed to turn his nose up at the food and things I took him...!
That was an experience and made me more cautious to the risks of travelling.
Bangkok is not so bad the second time round I have now mastered the bus's and river taxi's....one day Bangkok next day the world...no problem.
Oh one more thing I have now got music back on this damn ipod...I found a computer with the itunes software and went and bout 7 fake cd's for 6pounds..and good quality...bonus we now ave music again...yippee!
