Ok! Im finially gotten on a pc to do my first blog of the trip. Surprisingly I am doing this on the train from London to Edinburgh since it had power points for laptops and free wifi! :) Started quite early since we had 3 hours sleep then out to the airport at 3am.. First trip to Dubai was ok since there was a bit of excitement by all plus plenty of on demand movies on Eminrates, it wasnt too bad.
However, 11 hours is a bloody long flight.. then getting off for an hour trying to stretch out for an hour before boarding to London was LONG! Got into london just on dusk and into the hotel. Not looking forward to to that trip back in 35 days hehe
First day in london we decided lets write down the 'must see's' by everyone and how we can fit that in the time we are in the cities, decided to do this and it worked miracles in keeping the peace with all :) Kept it simple on the first day and jumped on the tourist double deckers and went around to the sites via that. One of the hop on hop off jobbies so if you seen something you liked it was easy to do it.
I have been to london before but 9 years ago, and its SO easy to forget how easy it is to use the underground here to get around. It seriously is awesome, no longer than 3-4 mins waiting for any underground.
We were lucky as as we went around on the bus we got to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, and the normal sites in London - Big ben, Trafalgar Square, Leinster Square, and plenty of other places on the Monopoly Board :)
Second day we decided to visit Madam Tousauds (The wax museum) and to be honest I didnt think is would nbe good at all, but was blown away at the detail of the people, yuo could get photos next to them and was really hard to tell real people next to the wax people! Also we went on the london eye and being scared of heights, i thought that was a bad decision to but does give a good view of how compact london is.
One thing I had realised by now is the prices of things - Are not as bad as they were when I was here last (partially from our great exchange rate to the pound at the moment and also the global credit crunch) - Beers (the most importnat measurement are about 2.5 to 3 pounds a beer 5-6 bux thats cheaper than home!!)
3rd day we decided to take a tour out to the countryside england and that started with a trip to windsor castle. Very cool and would also as the wax museum recommend to anyone coming over this way - Some of the state rooms and just chockers filled of knights armor, and various other artifacts used in the monachy for the last 400+ years. The most impressive however was one of the rooms that has each and every knight who served under the crown and thier sheild (all different coat of arms) - It was simply breaktaking and blew me away.
Next stop was some old rocks... REALLY old.. as in 5,500 years old! Stonehenge was really amazing, but really boring at the same time. It does require some imagination and im glad i have now seen them, but glad we only went here as it was on the way to somewhere else.
The last stop of the day was the city of Bath - A real surprise! Thought it would be a few buildings around the old roman baths built near on 2000 year ago. Turns out the town is MASSIVE - and the entire town is heritage listed.
Thats it for now will try and keep doing this as we go along on the trip :) Having a ball so far but will see if I can keep with the pace for another 30+ days!
Stay tuned I will try and upload a couple of pics to this blog too :)
