Well managed to steal some time to write some more on this thing - Its been great to reflect on the last few days as I write it. So much to take in and experience is definately the order of the day. Arrived in Edinburgh and immmediately was set back to how stunning some of these cities really are. Edinburgh has 2 main hills - One with an impressive castle perched right on top of one and another that on the top would give beautiful views of the city (I contemplated climbing it, but as we have already been doing roughly 10-15kms of walking a day, I dont think my body would have been up to climbing up it!)
Spent the first afternoon getting our bearings and also taking in the carnival type atmosphere as it is the month long Fringe festival at the moment going on. VERY busy everywhere and every single pub here had something interesting on. Ended up going into one that was showing some free comedy and watched an act that was considerably funny!
The second day we decided on going out of the city and into the highlands for a look so we jumped on a tour out to Loch Llommond, and the great Stirling Castle while driving a little through some of the highlands. Once again the tour guides on these are hilarious and learnt a lot about scottish history that quite frankly knew nothing about. It is still mind blowing the amount of history that can be seen in these places.
Not to be rude to the english but I did find the hospitality of the scottish to be better overall in the short time, but who know it could be the fringe changing how it normally is up here hehe. On the weather front I do feel for these guys, as this was the first couple of wet days and 16ish deg days. Doesnt sound too bad until you realise this is still in the best part of summer..!! I dread to think how cold it gets in winter! This night became quite a special night as we managed to a few months ago get tickets to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo (look it up on youtube!). As most things I didnt try and get hopes up too much, and was quite wet the night we went to take our seats, but this did not stop the guys putting on a fantastic show. Military bands were AWESOME specially my favourites the bagpipes and being backdropped by one of the most stunning castles really will stick in my mind forever.
We all decided the 3rd day was a free day to wind down and relax a bit, so had a nice sleep in then used the rest of the day to visit the insides of a few pubs (Beer here was even cheaper than London :)), and also do a tour of an old close that was used as the foundations of a bigger building that was built (Place is called Real Mary Kings Close). Another facinating tour this time underground and very informational on how the people lived during the time period. On our travels today we also came across an aussie bar that served bundy!! After the tour we went back there and Sam and myself polished off near a bottle :)
It was an early morning this morning as we had our flight out to dublin and immediately after arriving here it feels a lot like perth - VERY friendly straight off the bat and the era of buildings felt around the older stuff in perth. Went and had a late brekky and specifically picked a place - and Yes - Already I can say the Guiness definatley tastes different and MAGNIFICENT! Another day spent today getting our bearings and doing a walk around the city. Tonight its now time to hit Temple Bar! Will report on that in 4-5 days! Hope everyone is doing well and will keep hitting this tour at 100%!
