Hello Everybody
Hope you are all well, hear the weather is good in UK at mo.. how is it in Cyprus guys?
We have arrived in Melbourne, after 10 days of spectacular scenery on the Great Ocean Road ...
Weather has been mostly gorgeous, not too hot, great to get about and see things without feeeling too whacked!
We have stayed at Robe, a pretty seaside town, Mount Gambier, an inland volcanic town with an amazing blue lake, Port Fairy a wonderful little seafaring town that was just magical, Apollo Beach, a fishing/surfers dream and Queencliffe, a very upmarket historical Victorian resort which was a little gem.
Like NZ, we are just in awe of the scenery ... and this time the wildlife...we have met some wonderful friends on the way - koalas, just sitting in the treetops on the side of the road, Skippy himself (wouldn't give us his autograph...) emu , stingrays and lots of pretty birdlife, the feathered kind.. and even some very tiny fish on the end of Gary's fishing rod, which in the fisherman's tradition had to be kissed and thrown back...
Yes he's taken up bloody fishing now...after snorkerling, bellyboarding, scuba diving, I suppose it will be sky diving next... but he is well insured....still gives Dee time to top up the tan (her favourite hobby).
The campsites here are very good, most have pools and are very clean and spacious. The one at Queenscliffe was a 5 star! Some even have ensuites and movie theatres! So after 3 months in the tent now it is not a problem. We are mostly eating in, steak is soo cheap here we're getting a bit fed up with it..but Dee has never been much of a cook (Niecey please email barbecue recipes!!!!!) so I guess we're stuck with it. Although they do great takeway pies here thank goodness ...
We haven't seen much of a newspaper or TV in the last 3 months so we don't know much about what's going on in the world, which is a welcome respite!
We are staying a couple of days in Melbourne, which seems to be a wonderful city, but everyone looks under 25...or are we getting old...but we have met a lot of Aussie pensioners on the road who just spend their lives travelling from place to place in their caravans.. Grey Nomads they call them...they are all up for a laugh too. What a life!
Well best be off, before the grass grows underneath our tent... we're off to Wilson Promontory, a fabulous national park and then we will head to Lakes Entrance for a spot of fishing...and then off on the road to Sydney via what we have heard is some more fantastic coastline.
Keep in touch, we love your messages, sorry we cannot reply to all immediately, as internet cafes can sometimes be few and far between on the coast, but we will reply as soon as we can, just thinking of you all and wishing you all were here with us.
Lots of love and big hugs, Gary and Dee
Happy Birthdays to Cousin Dawn, Charlotte, Katie D and Miss Ella B XXXXX
