Had a great sleep, and this morning it was our time to enjoy North Bay. We had a free breakfast of fruit loops and bagel it was ok, stale but free! We asked the receptionist what should we do in North Bay, and he wasn't very helpful. We knew we could do a boat trips and we had already checked that it was operating today. Walked down Main Street there was a few shops a couple of restaurants and that's about it, they had a bowling alley at the bottom of the town, looked like it had been build in the 1950's. North Bay was a railway town, was build when the tracks were laid. It is located on the lake Nipissing.
That was going to be our next stop! We walked under the railway and final saw the lake. It was massive. We took a walk to the pier and got tickets for the boat trip. It was a 2 hour trip that would take us along the north shore, allowing us to see the amazing autumn colours on the turning trees.
We had 2 hours to kill, so we took a slow walk back to the hotel, as I had forgotten my camera. Walking back to the pier ready for our departure, on route we skimmed some stones on the lake, I was actually pretty good, and managed to get a stone to skim 5 times, Chris managed to get 3! The boat journey was a little slow and a little boring, thank god there was a bar onboard meaning we could have a couple of beers. You could have called it a saga trip! I think me and Chris must have been 30 years younger than everyone else.
The views over North Bay were impressive all the tree's different colours of the rainbow, reds, pinks, purples, oranges, yellows, greens! We were just a little too far to get good pictures.
We were lucky with the weather and the sun had been out all day, blue skies which resulted in us both getting a little sunburnt. We did sit up on the deck for a little bit before the wind made it a little to cold. The captain of the boat also allowed us to go into the bridge!
The town is very dead, and like a bit of a ghost town, I think it is a bit of a nothing town, but we needed to break up the journey some how. We have a 27hr bus journey tomorrow as it is. Walked back to the hostel and got changed before heading to the only pub/restaurant in this town. The food was amazing, and I think it might have been the best meal I have had so far! We even have apple crumble for pudding! Of course we couldn't have gone out for dinner without having a couple of beers. The waitress was a bit rude and as soon as we had put our spoons down, she gave us the bill "No we didn't want anything else.." We paid up and left.
As we walked out of the restaurant we could see the sky bright pink and orange, the sun was setting over lake Nipissing, and was stunning. Thankful for the rude waitress now, as one more beer would have meant we missed it. This has been the best part of North Bay. This sunset might even be better than the ones I saw in Thailand. Got some great pictures. And we just waited until the sun had completely disappeared. I have been a little hard on North Bay but the dinner and sunset were amazing! Back at the hotel, we just watched TV, and it was bed time!
