My time in Byron Bay has been short and sweet, but I loved my time here. I woke up this morning aching so much. I sure I used muscles yesterday while surfing that I have never used in my life. I looked like an old man getting out of bed and walking to the shower! I went and grabbed some breakfast before my bus. I found a cafe that did free wifi and ordered poached eggs and toast, it was great except I paid an arm and a leg for it...! The banana milkshake was fit.
It was 4 hours to Coffs Harbour. I'm not a 100% sure there is much to do here, it was just to break up my journey to Sydney. I didn't fancy doing a 14 hour journey. The guy from Manchester that I had meet a couple of times was also on the same bus, and was booked into my hostel as well. The journey was quick, I hoped the driver would put a movie on... But he didn't. So played games on my iPad. The weather had turned and started to look really grey and miserable. A perfect day for sitting on a bus.
Arriving in Coffs Harbour I was picked up back the hostel minibus, and it was about a 10 minute drive to the hostel, a little way out the small town but only 15-20 minute walk. The staff guy took us to a view point to show us the sights... There really isn't a lot here. A main high street, a beach and something called the big banana.. Not sure what that was? It seemed to be famous for banana's! I think I read a sign about Coffs Harbour being on the Banana coast??
Anyway, I checked in, and decided to take the scenic walk down to the town, it was about 25 minutes, and I was told on my way to look out for koala's as they are in the trees. I didn't see them. I was more worried about walking along the water edge of a lake and stream. I know I'm not in the crocodile country but still doesn't stop you looking out for them. The was walk good, but it started to rain. I didn't have my coat, so when I got to the town I just had some lunch.
I had a subway, I know my Mum will be saying, "You dont like subway!" and I don't normally but this is the smallest town, all the cafes were shut and it was the only thing I could get!! It was alright, just proves that I still don't really like subway. I walked back to the hostel on the main road, stopping off at Coles! I love a supermarket! I got stuff for dinner as the next two nights I'm in this remote hostel.
I was lucky as once I arrived back in the hostel the heavens opened, and it was lashing down. They don't have any bars or anything near by, so I just chilled in the hostel. Watched a couple of movies. 127 hours - which I havent seen, I was actually feeling physically sick when he cut his own arm off.... I don't think I will watch that film again any time soon. I didn't rally fancy my dinner after that.
Everyone then started to watch 28 days later, it was ok. Just a zombie film. I cooked and ate my dinner then chilled on my bunk. I must have crashed out after my exciting day. Ha ha. I have booked a whale sight seeing boat trip for tomorrow morning, meaning an early start, 8 o'clock the boat was leaving! All the whales are heading north into the warmer waters for the winter and there would be a very good chance of seeing them. The last 6 days have all seen hump back whales!
