Once again i have left this a bit on the long side but i am going to try to remember as much as i can (maybe).
Right so after the flight in i arrived in Cairns and headed to Gilligans. Not a bad place to start me thinks. So this is where i think i lucked out because room 216 turned out to be a really good place to be. The guys i met in there were all awesome to be around and some of them i was with for a while in that room (and some until today i have still been with but i will get onto that in a bit). The guys who i was with the most there i guess were Jack, Ronan, Walker (1 day later), Ciann, Stine and Daniella. Also the guys who have been back and forth like Yogi (Ryan) who i left today, and Dan, Joe, Ellie, Sandy (literally too many to name, i could be here all day so im gonna stop now). We literally just partied for like 12-13 days which we really didnt have much of a choice about because of...Yasi.
Now what a strange day that was. Sitting in a hostel, people drinking all day, waiting for the biggest cyclone we have ever seen to come and smash us all to pieces (well sort of but we were supposed to be in the safest place in town). And then with all the hype, nerves and excitement...nothing happened. It missed us. 100km/h winds was it. A few trees and signs had been blown over but that was about it. Well that was the end of that. Nothing happened but we couldnt leave because there was no buses out of Cairns because the roads we not clear to travel. So we just kept paryting, which helped me luck out because i was given a free reef trip by a girl who had won a game with Walker.
So i went to the Great Barrier Reef and did 2 dives which was awesome (apart from feeling seasick for the whole day). Eventually we were able to leave Cairns and i headed to Airlie Beach with Walker, Joe, Ellie, Dan and Yogi following closely closely behind.
We had a couple of nights out before i went on the Atlantic Clipper with Walker and Yogi. Now this is best described as a booze cruise in a stunning location (the Whitsunday Islands) with some stunnig dives thrown in as well. This boat is some of the most fun i have ever had in my life. There was a great group of people on the boat, some of whom you never know i might bump into again, and we just drank, jumped off the boat, slide, snorkelled and dived. You might be thinking why i havent said much about the diving at Cairns. Basically its because the diving here was so much better. Not as many things like clownfish but i saw a lot more stingrays (oh yea Whitehaven beach was incredible aswell, stingrays there, exfoliating sand, massive spiders), Elvis (i cant remember what type of fish he was) eho was huge and you could stroke and stuff and the grand finale, drumroll please.............a SHARK. I saw my first shark, it was a grey reef shark apparently and it was one of the coolest things i have evere seen in my life. So graceful yet so perfectly predatory looking.
Well i am drawing to a conclusion now. The after boat party was cool and now i am here in Rockhampton, waiting to go to Kroombit cattle station tomorrow and then meeting up with Walker and Yogi on Friday in Rainbow Beach to go to Fraser Island.
So until the next time, everyone keep good and i shall post when i post.
