Namaste!!!!
First blog entry since i left! Finally! Internet is so slow here it's just a real pain! And i have been so busy since i arrived!
So I arrived last sunday and got picked up at the airport by my host family - I stayed in their house just outside KTM for 4 nights - it's good to be with a nepalese family and be immersed in the culture but i feel in cage since everything is scheduled ALL-THE-TIME. We usually got up at 8 for breakfast (dhaal baat, the national dish of rice and lentils, with vegs and pickles, to be eaten with the right hand - got to adopt local customs!), then went for sightseeing (we saw three sites but to be honest we were so rushed all the time that i have decided to go back there on my own - so i will write about those when i feel i have really seen them), quick lunch (generally MO-MO, traditional steamed pieces with vegs or meat inside) and nepali lesson in the afternoon. To be honest although it was nice to be there I just had enough of having every minute of my day scheduled for all the time - even going to the loo was a hassle....fortunately we are a group of volunteers and all get on well so it made it more fun! How to discribe KTM - it's crazy in every way I would say - never seen so much traffic in my life, there's no rubbish collection system so they just dump their stuff on the side of the roads, its very noisy too. It's a mixure of old asian town but has developed in a tourist paradise too (you can buy pretty much everything here - from cadbury chocolate to porridge, etc). There are several KTM in fact and I think I will try to stick to the most traditional one as much as i can.
Then I, along with Jude and Monica, 2other volunteers, left to go to Chitwan national park for a jungle adventure. Chitwan is in the Tarai region and it's boiling hot down there - whilst the weather cools down after 4PM in kathmandu.
That was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! We stayed in a lodge by the beach. The drinks are amazingly cheap, the people are so nice and laydback (changes from KTM!) and the landscape is just amazing! In two days we went canoeing, jungle walking, went swimmng with elephant, riding them and feeding little ones too. Loved it!! Once you're there you just don't really want to go back to KTM! We also met a lovely american couple who coordinates volunteering programs in a farm in pokhara - I got to meet the nepalese man in charge of it too and I might go there for a few days - it's newly set up and there are apparently no white faces down there - so a great way to be right in the nepalese rural culture. I will help in the farm, teach the kids and give a little contribution - in exchange i get bed and meals. Pretty interesting.I am now covered of mosquitos bites but had the best time!
Now I am back in KTM and staying in a hostel tonight yay! I think we're all relieved to have a bit of freedom! From tomorrow Jude & I (we're doing our placements together) are off to the monastery to start the volunteering - unfortunately there are no spaces available in Lumbini where I wanted to go so will go in the KTM valley instead.
Not sure if/when I'll manage to connect on the internet but I'll update my blog asap.
I hope you are reading me and finding it interesting! Looking forward to read your messages!

Namaste!!!!
